LIVING WILD

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Cheshire Wildlife Trust,
Christopher Gilmore was invited to read his own work.  In Chester Cathedral  on Tuesday November the 19th., 2002,  he recited these  poems.

LIVING WILD

The spark of new life

Shines in the eye of every little ant

In every pig potato born.

The spark of new life

Shines in the eye of every elephant

That trumpets in each golden dawn.

The spark of new life

Shines in the eye of every elephant

That trumpets in each golden dawn.

May all be safe and sound

From bluest sky to fertile ground

As Mother Nature spins around and around and around.

Living Wild

Each jungle child

Many creatures great and small

Living Wild

Undefiled

From silver-backed apes to waterfall.   All seas and rivers purified

All dancing bears untied

All deserts growing trees galore

Let’s dream of love and no more war.

No more fur-lined slippers

Or hedgerow strippers.

No more toxic tippers

Or whaling skippers

Animal whimpers or pop-eyed famished nippers.

May all be safe and sound

From bluest sky to fertile ground

As Mother Nature spins around and around and around.

Human

I am the universe

Each star and each stone.

Am never alone.

I am the universe

Each cell and each sun.

I am the universe

Have nowhere to run.

Be with the sea, the sand and the sky.

Be with the tree and snakes who would fly.

We are the fowl who flock in a throng.

We are the folk who would do no wrong.

See the sun, the seed and soil as one.

See the smile and curse as toil well done.

Love the self, the rain and storm.

Love the elf in angel form.

Love the soul; not her not his

Love the goal of all that is.

I am the universe

Each song and each breath.

Each life and each death.

I am the universe

Each egg and each nest.

I am the universe

Can never know rest.

I am all, three eyes in one.

Horus, human, all yet none.

Back to the light, back to the sound

 unbound.

I am the universe, instrument, audience, encore

I the orchestra, composer, conductor and score.

I am the universe

I am

I.
